Natural reserve of “Marais d’Orx”
Walking around the lake, bird and turtle watching. All the family can join.
Natural reserve of “courant d’Huchet”
Walking or paddling (canoes) tours from « Leon » lake all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. The walking tour is not recommended for children under 10 years.
The dune of Pilat
A short walking tour to the top of the highest sandy dune of Europe. A magnificient panoramic view over the Bay of Arcachon will be your reward. Easy access for all the family: parking place and cafes in the vicinity.
The Basque mountains
Most of the Basque mountains area is made of low tops (500-1000m), and unique landscape and animals. Often easy to access by foot and with vaying levels of difficulty. The caves of Sare, Isturitz or Oxocelhaya are also nice tours.
Cirque de Gavarnie (Unesco world heritage)
Not located along the Bay of Biscay, but in Central Pyrenees, the Cirque de Gavarnie offers a breathtaking scenery, available for all the family. Worth the 3 hours drive from Biarritz.


The authentic little Basque villages
Aihnoa, Espelette, Sare, Saint Jean Pied de Port and their typical food-making based on delicious local products. By foot, by bike or by car.
Its architectural and cultural heritage , and of course its castles and wine yards around the city.
Its casino, its lovely beaches between the cliffs, and its palace made at Napoleon III times.
Saint Jean de Luz
Little village of fishermen with a large and beautifull bay, where adults and children can play and swim. This is also where the wedding of Ludwig XIV, king of France, took place.
San Sebastian
Its nightlife and tapas bars. That city has the world’s highest density of starred restaurants. And again, a fantastic beach along its large bay for promenades or sun bathing.
The Guggenheim museum and the Rioja wine yards are at 1h drive. The village of Guernica, that inspired the most famous Picasso’s painting, is also very close.


Hiking in the Basque mountains
“La Rhune” peak (805m) or the “pic d’Orhy” (2017m) m) are possibilties for a day trip. But many more alternatives can be found, like along the Compostela pilgrimage route.
The region offers possibilities both on the low- and highlands. Note that the « green avenue » offers a 30 km bike tour between Labenne and Soustons municipalities, in the middle of the pines forest of «les Landes ».
Golfs of Seignosse, Hossegor, Soustons, Moliets, “golf de Chiberta” in Anglet or “golf  du Phare” in Biarritz. To only mention some of them.
The beaches of Mundaca (Bilbao region), Biarritz, Anglet, Hossegor or Seignosse are known from all around the world. Every year in October, the world surfing tour stops at Hossegor for a show of 10 days.
Windsurf, kite-surf, stand-up paddle (SUP), sailing
Lakes of Hossegor, Biscarosse or Léon in Soutons, or on the Arcachon bay.
“Le petit train de la Rhune”
An authentic rack railway will take you up to the top of « la Rhune », which is of the borderline between France and Spain. From there, just take a refreshment in one of the « ventas », admiring a breathtaking scenery. A family tour to do during a sunny day.
Many beaches with lifeguard
A 100 km long coastline offers you numerous sandy beaches with a water at 20-22 degrees Celsius during summertime. You will be safe as most of the areas have lifeguards keeping an eye on you and your children.
